Great News for Middle School Athletics!

Here is some fantastic news for middle school athletics and their parents residing in Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. Hendrick Automotive Group has committed to a $250,000 sponsorship that will allow Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools (CMS) to offer a complete middle school sports program for the 2011-12 academic year.

This is indeed great news for students, as Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools had decided to reduce the number of middle school sports offered due to budget cuts. Hendrick Automotive Group’s sponsorship along with a contribution from an unidentified source will now cover the shortfall in the budget. The accumulated funds will now be used to host the full lineup of 13 sports at all 32 middle schools for more than 6,500 students participating in athletics across the district.

According to the sponsor agreement, HendrickCars.com has been designated as the official sponsor of CMS athletics, and this has resulted in opportunities for more than 16,000 middle and high school students.

The sponsorship money will be used by CMS to help pay coaching stipends, transportation costs for middle school athletics, and fees for officials. However, the students who wish to participate in the sporting events still need to pay the sporting fees.
